“Trade Unions and the Child Care Sector”

The Education Department of the European Trade Union Institute for Research, Education and Health and Safety will organise a joint course with the European Federation of Public Service Unions about Trade unions and the Child Care sector which will be held from 14 to 17 June 2008 in Sesimbra, Portugal.
This course aims:
- To examine and learn about the developments and debates on child care, which take place at EU-level
- To exchange national experiences and see where there are common issues to be tackled, e.g. at EU-level
- To examine and learn in which way trade union strategies could raise trade union's profiles in the child care sector
Working languages will be English, French, German and possibly other language(s) still to be decided.
The enclosed programme will give you an overview of the course contents. Research and/or discussion papers will be sent to the participants in advance of the meeting.

Who should participate?
Trade union representatives from EPSU affiliates with responsibility for Child Care issues and/or collective bargaining in the Child Care Sector.

When should participants arrive and depart?
Participants are expected to arrive on Saturday 14 and to leave on Tuesday 17 June 2008 (after lunch).

How are enrolments processed?
A maximum of 25 participants can be accepted on the terms as described below. Additional participants will be requested to cover their own costs for travel and accommodation. The final confirmation of the participants will be done by the team of trainers bearing in mind the requirements for the target group, i.e. a broad representation of countries and unions.
We ask you to bear in mind the recommendations of the ETUC Action Plan for women which call for the proportional representation of women in trade union activities.

Payment of registration
Each organisation is required to pay a direct monetary contribution to ETUI-REHS Education to the value of 150€ per participant. For participants from Central and Eastern European Countries this amount is 37,50€.

Reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs

Travel (PEX flights) and accommodation costs will be covered by ETUI-REHS Education, only for participants coming from member states of the European Union and the candidate countries (Croatia, Macedonia and Turkey). Travel costs will be reimbursed on the basis of the most economic fare available (economy/APEX/PEX air fares) in accordance with Commission regulations.
