(26 April 2013) Peter Brabeck, the boss of the multinational corporation Nestle denies that water is a human right in the documentary: We feed the world. He believes that the idea that water is a human right comes from “extremist” NGOs. For him water is a foodstuff like any other, and should have a market value. Privatisation is the best way of doing so.
EPSU Deputy General Secretary Jan Willem Goudriaan: "We disagree. Most members of the European Parliament disagree. The United Nations disagrees. The more then 1 million signatures to the European Citizens Initiative Right2Water disagree. It is against such profit-seeking companies and the radical orthodoxy of their CEOs we need to defend that most essential of resources: water. " The European Citizens Initiative Water a Human Right demands that the European Commission implements the human right to water as defined by the United Nations. Water should remain outside of the internal market and social and environmental considerations should prevail. Several NGOs have started a campaign to tell Mr. Brabeck that he is wrong and have asked to support the European Citizens Initiative. Sign at: www.right2water.eu.
