The employers (Eurelectric) and the trade unions agreed a joint statement on skill needs in the European electricity sector at the plenary meeting. Both sides draw attention to the emerging skill gaps, and the need for the social partners and other authorities to address this. An important way to do so is through increasing the number of younger workers in the industry (apprenticeships and other training possibilities).
Policies will be evaluated in three years (statement is attached).
Other issues agreed:
- Draft terms of reference on a working group on corporate social responsibility
- Continuation of work on security of supply issues
- Working group on health and safety (terms of reference to be defined).
An interim report was presented on the equality and diversity project (carried out by the University of Cardiff, Prof. Peter Fairbrother). Reports were also given on the discussions with the European Commission on monitoring employment developments, and on the EU-Russia energy dialogue. A full report is available ([email protected])
