Around 45,000 local government employees joined a warning strike on 2 February in protest at cuts in public sector pay and jobs. The strike was organised by the National Federation of Unions in Administration part of the Sed Lex federation affiliated to EPSU. Further action was planned from 12 February if the government failed to respond on calls for increases to low salaries and to revise the proposed job cuts.

Local government union STAL, along with other unions in the public sector Frente Comum, is continuing its campaign against the austerity measures being imposed by the government. It was involved in major day of action on 26 November. GREECE - national and local government workers take to the streets
The Greek civil service union ADEDY organised a four-hour stoppage on Friday 24 June while the local government workers' union POE-OTA are taking action today. Both organisations are protesting at government plans to reform the social security system. The ADEDY action was called to coincide with action in the private sector where the banking unions in particular are campaigning against the imposition of later retirement.
