Unions mobilise over fair pay and conditions across public administration

Recent mobilisations of union members in public administration in Lleida, Logroño, Tarragona y Ceuta mark the end of a first phase of demonstrations organised by the three main public service federations in CCOO, UGT and CSIF. The key aim of the protests has been to keep up the pressure for the recuperation of pay and benefits cut under austerity but also to call for public employees to have the same pay and benefits as civil servants. The unions are also demanding a minimum monthly wage of EUR 1200 across the public administration.

Unions set to mobilise across social security

The FeSP-UGT and FSC-CCOO public service federations are set to mobilise their members working in social security in protest at the ministry’s failure to address longstanding problems in the department. The unions argue that the ministry is hiding behind the Treasury in claiming that it doesn’t have the funds to address a range of issues including a commitment to improve working conditions. The federations also have major concerns about management of the department and oppose the decision to recruit a large number of interns which the unions argue will not address the need for additional

Union mobilises around pay across public services

Switzerland

The vpod/ssp public services trade union is mobilising its members around the country in support of action to secure higher pay. The union is organising a rally in Bern on 18 November where the regional government is proposing a pay rise of only 2% leaving workers with an effective pay cut. A day of strike action has already taken place in Geneva on 12 October and further action is planned for both 3 and 24 November. Vpod/ssp members in Fribourg are demanding a 4% pay rise in the face of the 2.3% on offer. The union is collecting signatures for a petition which will be handed in on 4 December

Strike planned across health and public administration

Italy

The Cgil, Cisl and Uil Pa public service federations have declared a one-day strike on 9 December covering public health, and local, regional and central government. New collective agreements are due to be negotiated across these sectors but the unions argue that the government has failed to guarantee funding to cover any negotiated improvements. They also say that there is no commitment from the government to ensure safety at work, to increase employment or to tackle precarious work. Fp-Cgil (IT)
