General strike in Greece against labour reform

(11 December 2017) On Thursday 14th December Greek workers are marching through their cities to protest against the government proposals. The unions want to see an end to pay freezes, steps towards decent pay and no reduction in tax allowances. They reject plans for further cuts to pensions and call for the creation of permanent jobs to deal with staffing shortages across the public services. The confederations also want to block any restrictions on the right to strike.

For EPSU it is extremely important to continue to show its opposition to the austerity policies that are still being pushed on Greece by the European institutions. These reforms are not going to help workers and poor people in Greece and they are not going to take the country out of the path that the troika imposed almost 8 years ago.

The European Public Service Union have sent a letter of solidarity to its Greeks affiliates and Greek workers on strike.

A few months ago we already expressed ourselves on that reform https://www.euractiv.com/section/economy-jobs/opinion/greece-lenders-take-unacceptable-hard-line-on-collective-bargaining-and-worker-rights/
