As recovery from the pandemic is taking place several finance ministers have started to argue we have to go back to balanced budgets and reduce state debts. EPSU and many other unions argued at the ETUC mid term conference that we can not go back to austerity.
EPSU Executive: Internal Decision-Making
EPSU’s Executive Committee is responsible for determining policies in between Congresses and meets at least once per year. Representation of unions is on a country basis. It is led by EPSU’s President Mette Nord (Fagforbundet, Norway) , and General Secretary, Jan Willem Goudriaan. The Vice-Presidents are Françoise Geng (CGT Santé Action Sociale France), Thomas Kattnig (Younion, Austria), and Liz Snape (Unison, UK).
Four Standing Committees focus the technical and vocational / sectoral work of EPSU:
- Health and Social Services (HSS)
- Local and Regional Government (LRG)
- National and European Administration (NEA)
- Public Utilities (UT)
One year on the pandemic is still raging across the globe. India and Brazil are very sad testimonies of governments that failed to put workers’ and peoples’ interests before narrow, ideological and corporate elite interests.

EPSU Executive expresses its solidarity with the Italian public service unions strike action 9 December
The EPSU Executive Committee expresses its support for the Italian public services unions that will strike on 9 December to demand recognition for their role and work during the pandemic and for the government to renew the public service workers’ collective agreement that expired more than a year ago.
