Promoting and protecting public services in Europe
EPSU wants to see a European Union that recognizes and supports the role of public services in contributing to sustainable development and quality of life. In an increasingly integrated Europe it is important to tackle issues such as tax dumping and cut-throat competition, which put pressure on public services and concentrate increasing amounts of wealth in fewer and fewer hands. Fair and progressive taxation, good governance and effective regulation are needed to guarantee quality public services for all.
23 June is International Public Service Day. We celebrate it without the very constringent measures of the worst of the COVID19 pandemic, but we do not forget what this pandemic has meant for public services workers who kept society going...
EPSU writes to the European commission to follow up good citizens demands on Conference of Future of Europe
On May 13 the European Federation of Public Services Unions wrote to Commissioners Kyriakides, Schmit and Šefčovič regarding the final report of the Conference for the future of Europe (CoFoE).
A recent report from the European Social Policy Network (ESPN) analyses the measures, policy frameworks and reforms that countries have put in place to help people on low incomes to access essential services.
EPSU representatives participated at the conference "Employment challenges and opportunities in the social care sector: the case of long-term care" organized by Eurodiaconia in cooperation with Social Services Europe.
