The Trade Union Position on the Referendum in Switzerland

(4 March 2014) On 9th February a slim majority of Swiss citizens voted in favour of an initiative proposed by the Swiss People’s Party that seeks to reintroduce controls on immigrants from the European Union. For the Trade Union Movement and all progressive forces, this decision marks a major step backwards for immigrants living in Switzerland and will only lead the country down a dead end.

You can read, in the attached documents, the position of the Swiss trade unions and their leaders: Paul Rechsteiner, president of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions SGB, Andreas Rieger, SGB delegate in the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) executive, Renzo Ambrosetti, co-president of Unia and vice-president of IndustriAll Europe.
