Concluding the demographic change and competencies project

(4 December 2009) The main discussion concentrated on the follow up to be given to the study and the toolkit on demographic change and competencies. The importance of a national follow up was underlined. The study and toolkit will also be addressed to the European Commission. Related to the project, the union side made a proposal for a joint position on the studies for the Commission on Investing in the Future of Jobs and Skills. One of these covers the electricity, gas, water and waste sector. Eurogas will react to the proposal.

No progress was made regarding Corporate Social Responsibility. The contents were not considered. The union delegation was disappointed.

A longer discussion took place on the Work Programme for 2010. This will include the follow up to the Demographic change project, CSR, the Energy Road Maps 2050 amongst others. The social partners further had a reflection on the ongoing discussions on the implementation of the so-called Third Package of energy market liberalisation - unbundling of transmission/ transport operators and of distribution companies.

The plenary of the social dialogue committee gas took place 2 December 2009, Brussels. The EPSU Deputy General Secretary participated.
