Impact on employees needs attention in 3rd package say gas social partners

(11 February 2008) A major item of discussion was the 3rd package of liberalisation of the internal market for electricity and gas. Eurogas presented the views on the different parts of the package such as the gas directive, the European Regulatory Agency and the access to transmission networks. The trade union side commented underlining the importance of addressing the social dimension, impact on workers and the need for transparency and democracy with the regulator. The social partners will consider if a joint position is possible.

The social partners then exchanged views with Carmelo Cedrone the rapporteur on the 3rd package for the European Economic and Social Committee. Other issues discussed included:
The South East European Energy Community and the preparation of the workshop on the implementation of the Memordandum of Understanding on the social aspects in May.
- A project on Demographic Ageing
- The European Commission project on Skills and Innovation which also includes the gas sector.
- The next plenary meeting will be 10 April 2008. Andreas Bauer (GdG, Austria), Didier Bauer (CGT-FNME, France) and the EPSU Deputy General Secretary participated.
