Future of the Energy Community: social dimension needs strengthening

(11 March 2014) Today the European social partners for the European electricity industry (Eurelectric for the employers, EPSU/IndustriAll-Europe for the trade unions) addressed a letter to the chair of the High-Level Reflection Group on the Future of the Energy Community, Jerzy Buzek. In the letter they ask that the social dimension, represented by the Memorandum of Understanding on the social aspects of the Energy Community is fully integrated in the Treaty.

Christian Nikel, the president of the European social dialogue committee for the electricity industry comments: "The Energy Community Treaty is an important instrument to develop Europe's energy sector further and integrate it with the European Union. As social partners we stress its social dimension needs strengthening to fully realise the benefits of improved living and working conditions for workers and the people in Energy Community countries".
