Just before Christmas trade unions confederations and employers completed their negotiations on the two-year intersectoral agreement that covers the two million workers in the private sector. The confederations will now carry out their own internal consultations before confirming the agreement. The agreement covers a wide range of elements. It sets an indicative pay increase of 5% over the two years 2007-2008. This is arrived at following comparison with predicted pay developments in the neighbouring countries of France, Germany and the Netherlands. The agreement also lays down two €25 increases in the minimum wage in April 2007 and October 2008. This is the first time since 1993 that the minimum wage has been increased on top of the normal indexation.

Federal government unions sign agreement for 2007-2008
At the beginning of July the three main trade unions signed a new collective agreement covering federal government workers for the period 2007-2008.The deal includes a higher end-of-year payment and an agreement in principal to work towards the introduction of a 13th month salary in future agreements. There is a particular initiative on low pay with an additional amount - €328 - added to the pay band that covers cleaning and catering staff. Pay agreement in private waste sector
After a series of warning strikes the services trade union ver.di has secured a new agreement with the BDE employers' organisation covering 20,000 workers in the private waste industry. The agreement runs until 30 April 2010 and workers get a basic increase of €50 from 1 May 2008 plus 2.8% and then a further 3% increase on pay from 1 May 2009. A lump sum of €100 is to cover the period between 1 January and 30 April 2008 - the previous agreement ran to 31 December 2007. Private waste sector agreement finally signed
After difficult and lengthy negotiations and strike action, the FP-CGIL, FIT-CISL and FIADEL trade unions have signed a new collective agreement in the private waste sector for the period 2011-13. The deal will mean an overall pay increase of around 7.7% or €134. The unions were concerned to maintain the sectoral agreement in the face of legislation to liberalise the industry and pressure to decentralise bargaining. Read more at > FP-CGIL (IT)
