Over the past three years the authorities in Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland have introduced regulations that ended the
privatization of cleaning services in hospitals. The decisions were
made partly in response to the poor quality of much of the privatized
cleaning and the spread of infection in some hospitals. In both
Scotland and Wales resources for hospital cleaning have been increased.
