The Northern Ireland civil service union NIPSA is planning to take legal action on equal pay. It has examined administrative and technical jobs and found evidence of substantial pay differences in jobs that have been rated as equivalent using a job evaluation scheme. Women make up the majority of those in the administrative assistant and officer grades examined while the technical grade jobs are dominated by men.

Health unions plan legal action over lack of negotiations
Unions representing health workers (CCOO, UGT and CSIF) met on 30 March to plan a legal challenge over the lack of social dialogue in the sector. They cite in particular the Pact for Health and decisions on clinical management and nurse prescriptions which have been implemented without negotiations with the trade unions. This is not just about reducing the persistent gender pay gap but about dealing with inequalities between men and women across society. The Commission plans to publish a Communication on the pay gap but in the meantime as set out a roadmap - a list of actions to be taken to tackle political, economic and social inequality. Union plans day of action on equality
The VPÖD-SSP public services union is planning a day of action on 14 June as part of a campaign to secure a range of measures on equality. The union is calling for demonstrations and strikes in order to achieve progress towards equal pay, securing a minimum wage, improving childcare and parental leave and many other policies that would help achieve greater equality.
