Our SINTAP contact also reports that the government has imposed a 1,5% pay increase for all the public services workers. By doing this the socialist government has violated ILO conventions and the Portuguese public collective law. During the negotiations the Government rejected all the trade unions proposals. After this decision, FESAP/UGT asked for a further negotiations in order to minimise the 7.9% lost of purchasing power that the public service workers have suffered since 1998.

Government imposes recruitment freeze

Local government employers in Scotland impose pay freeze
Unions have reacted angrily to the decision by the COSLA Scottish local government employers to impose a pay freeze on 150,000 council workers. COSLA had offered a three-year deal with 1% in 2010, 0% in 2011 and 0.5% in 2012. This was rejected by unions but instead of negotiating the employers have moved to impose a worse deal with a 0.65% increase this year followed by two years of pay freeze. Government imposes compulsory arbitration to end hospital strike
After two weeks, the government has ended a strike by members of the YS trade union in the hospitals by imposing compulsory arbitration. The union is disappointed with the government’s action having taken measures to ensure patient safety during the action and arguing that it was up to the employer’s organisation, Spekter, to call for arbitration and not the government. The union congratulated its members on their willingness to take strike action in support of equal pay for work of equal value.
