Ver.di's negotiating committee at the Fresenius/Helios health group is calling for a job and employment security agreement following the company's acquisition of 43 clinics and other facilities from the Rhön clinic group. The union is extremely worried that employees and patients will lose out as the merged organisation looks for savings to help fund the takeover. Ver.di representatives are already reporting concerns about vacant jobs not being filled, non-renewal of temporary contracts, dismissals during probationary periods and dismissals linked to sickness. There was even one reported case of staffing being reduced at an intensive care unit.

Union calls for job security agreement at hospitals group
Ver.di has reaffirmed its call for a job security agreement at the Helios (Fresenius) hospital group following confirmation that it would acquire 53 clinics and care centres from the Rhön healthcare company. Helios stated some time ago that the merger would not have an impact on employment, but ver.di argues that if that is the case then the company should sign an agreement to that effect. The union is concerned that the costs of the merger may have an impact on employment levels and wants to ensure that works councils in the company have are informed in advance of any restructuring plans.
Pay rise and job security in energy company
The ver.di services union has negotiated a new deal with the RWE energy company covering its 25000 workers. Along with a job security agreement that runs to the end of 2018, workers will get a €1200 lump sum to cover the period between 1 January and 30 June 2015. On 1 July 2015 there will be a 2.3% increase to pay rates and this agreement will run to 31 December 2016. Apprentices will also see a comparable increase in pay while their lump sum will be €400. Ver.di sees this as a good deal in the face of the challenging situation in the German energy industry. [Read more at > ver.di (DE)->http:/
