The second round of bargaining over the AVE sectoral agreement failed to produce a result. The employers, dominated by EON, offered a 2.3% increase. However, the union wants a 5.5% over 12 months for the 30,000 employees covered by the agreement. Ver.di argues that the employers remain highly profitable and have not suffered as much from the crisis as other sectors. Bargaining resumes on 5 May.

Childcare employers fail to improve pay offer
After four rounds of negotiations, employers in the childcare sector have failed to improve the pay increase offered at the beginning of November – a 10.15% increase over two years. The FNV trade union argues that this is insufficient to protect against inflation and deliver the level of pay that would help address staff shortages. The union claim is for a 12.9% increase over 12 months. At the beginning of November, the unions launched a petition, now signed over 15,000 times, to make it clear to employers that a decent wage increase is desperately needed to keep the sector attractive to work
Union plans warning strikes as employers fail to make offer
The first round of negotiations covering federal and municipal workers took place on 26 February with the employers' side failing to make a concrete offer. Around a 150 public service workers provided a noisey welcoming committee to the participants, underlining their demand for a 6% pay increase, with a minimum of EUR 200 a month. Services union ver.di stressed that it would be pushing hard for the 6% rise arguing that public service workers should benefit from the current economic situation - the most positive for some 20 years.
