Members of the three local government unions, UNISON, GMB and Unite, have voted to accept a 1% pay increase for 2009 (backdated to 1 April) with lower paid workers getting 1.5% (those earning less than £7.10 (€8.12) an hour/£13,336 (€15,247) a year). Workers will get an extra day of paid leave and the employers are committed to negotiating a new national redundancy scheme by 1 December.

Pay deal agreed in regional government
Public sector unions, including ver.di, have secured a pay increase for 800000 regional government workers after four rounds of negotiations. Pay will rise in two steps with a 2.1% increase backdated to 1 March 2015 and then 2.3% on 1 March 2016. There will be a minimum increase of €75 a month so that the overall increase will average 4.83%, with the lowest paid getting more than 6%. In Hessen there separate negotiations for the 45000 regional government workers and warning strikes took place around the region on 13 April to support ver.di and the other unions in their 5.5% claim. Government and unions agree pay deal for 2006

Members back regional government pay deal
The ver.di services union has surveyed its membership in regional government to get their response to the recent two-year pay deal in regional government. Overall just under 69% of those voting supported the agreement but this figure rose to 80% in the East. Ver.di general secretary Frank Bsirske said it was important to assess members’ reactions to the agreement as this would help the union in how it planned its future work. Read more at > ver.di (DE)
