Local government pay dispute resolved

The 2008 pay increase for local government workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be 2.75% following a process of binding arbitration overseen by Acas, the conciliation and mediation service. Lower paid workers also get an extra £100 as agreed previously. The arbitration process delivered an extra 0.3% on top of what the employers had offered in 2008.
