Lunch Debate – The Just Transition and Europe’s Energy System

The European Public Service Union (EPSU) is proud to warmly invite you to a debate on the future of Europe’s energy system. The event will be held at EPSU’s offices at Rue Joseph II 40, Brussels 1000 from 11:30-14:00 on 10 December 2019. Please save the date. In light of the European Green Deal and the European Commission’s commitment to a Just Transition, EPSU is calling to open public debate and discourse on the framework of the continent’s energy system.

At the event, Dr. Vera Weghmann will present her new report, commissioned by EPSU, “Going Public: A Decarbonised, Affordable and Democratic Energy System”. The report analyses and assesses the past 20 years of liberalisation within the energy system in Europe. It also provides policy proposals for alternative models for the energy system to reach a decarbonised economy in a socially just manner.

The report raises a number of important questions on Europe’s energy system which will be examined and expanded upon in a panel debate with environmentalists and trade unionists. The panel debate will be followed by a light networking lunch.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Dr Vera Weghmann, Research Fellow, Public Services International Research Unit (PSIRU)
  • Jan Willem Goudriaan, General Secretary, European Public Service Union (EPSU)
  • Jagoda Munić, Director, Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE)

We invite you to read the report on our website and register for the event here.

The deadline for registration is 02 December 2019.
