Union confederation plans anti-austerity rally on 8 September

The ADEDY civil service confederation is planning an anti-austerity protest on 8 September in Thessaloniki to coincide with the city's international fair which will be opened by prime minister, Alexis Tsipras. The confederation aims to highlight the fact that workers and pensioners continue to suffer the impact of deep austerity measures despite the country exiting the bailout programme. With economic output having fallen by 25%, unemployment still over 20% and massive staff shortages in key public services, particularly healthcare, ADEDY argues that austerity continues to bite. The confederation will highlight a range of key measures it is calling for including increases to wages and pensions, increased recruitment to health and other public services and a restoration of union and bargaining rights.

Confederations plans series of anti-austerity actions

(May 2016) The three confederations are mobilising for a series of actions over the next few months culminating in a general strike on 7 October, the second anniversary of the centre-right government. The unions are angry about continuing cuts to public services but also to the threat to the 38-hour week. They are calling for more investment in public services and a range of other measures to boost the economy. The first major event will be a joint national demonstration on 24 May in Brussels. Confederations unite in anti-austerity protest

The three trade union confederations came together on 23 September in a demonstration in central Brussels against the austerity policies threatened by the political parties discussing a coalition government. The unions warn of a threat to purchasing power, cuts to public sector pensions as well as cuts to health and social services spending. Anti-austerity protests continue

Trade unions are maintaining their protest actions against the government, its austerity measures and failure to engage in any social dialogue. Following the initial march in Strakonice, further mobilisations took place in Zlín and Ostrava on 27 June and a rally of public service trade unions took place in Prague on 29 June, with EPSU affiliates involved. The trade unions issued a public statement calling on the government to withdraw its proposals for budget and public sector pay cuts and not to make the same mistakes as the government of 2010 that imposed austerity across the public services
