Support Petition to defend Right to Strike Air Traffic Controllers – Our rights, our safety

(21 November 2017) The European Commission has recommended to curtail the right of airtraffic controllers in the Communication ‘Aviation: Open and Connected Europe (COM 2017) 286 final’ dated on 8 June 2017.  The proposals of the Commission follow an aggressive lobby of the low-cost airlines. Our sister Federation ETF, the organisations for air traffic controllers, ETUC, EPSU and others have rejected this interference of the European Commission. The Commission has no competence in this area. Despite discussion with the Commission, the Commissioner for Transport Slovenian Violetta Bulc and part of the European Liberals, refused to withdraw the proposals.  The unions have started a petition to defend the rights enshrined in the Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental rights. The unions’ campaign ‘Our Rights – Your Safety’ demands the Commission to respect the right to strike. Workers should have the ability to defend themselves . They need the capacity to raise their voice to maintain and improve the safety of the European sky.
