Conference debates cuts and increasing workloads

(June 2016) Over 1900 activists from the FOA public services union met in Odense on 9 June to discuss the impact of cuts in spending on care for the elderly and childcare. Eldercare has been particularly hard hit creating a massive increases in workloads and major problems with stress. The proportion of FOA members who feel stressed, has more than doubled, from 9 percent in 2010 to 19 percent in 2015, while last year 72 percent of FOA members said that their workload had increased in the past year.The union discussed what initiatives to take and in particular how to alert the public to the issues. Violence in prisons linked to cutbacks increased workloads

Intimidation, aggression and violence are still a major problem in prisons according to a new report by the labour inspectorate. The FNV Abvakabo trade union notes that there haven’t been any major improvements since 2008 when a plan to improve working conditions was formulated. A survey then identified problems in in 63% of institutions while the latest findings of the labour inspectorate indicate this figure has risen to 79%. The union argues that initiatives to tackle violence have been limited by spending cutbacks and it says that information received thanks to its hotline for staff

Survey shows massively increased workload for emergency medical services

A survey by the health and services union ver.di has revealed that the already high burden on employees in the emergency medical service has increased significantly since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Around 7,000 workers replied to the questionnaire with 39% saying they would change professions immediately if they had the opportunity.
