(May 2016) Unions representing labour inspectors organised a day of strike action on 2 May in protest at the serious deterioration of working conditions. The unions are calling for the removal of the head of the service and immediate action to tackle issue of bullying and harassment and redeployment and dismissal of workers. The unions also want to see more resources and staff to ensure that the service can effectively tackle workplace issues and tackle precarious work. Read more at SIT (PT)

Labour Inspectorate exposes poor working environment in hospitals
The Danish nurses' union (DSR) reports that hospitals are being given red or yellow smileys by the Labour Inspectorate to indicate that they are failing to tackle serious problems to do with the mental and physical working environment. The hospitals categorised with red smileys are those with the most serious problems arising from years of cuts that have left overworked staff struggling to maintain services for patients. The union has called on the regional authorities to take urgent action.
Labour inspectorate dispute continues
Workers in the Labour Inspectorate are three weeks into their regular stoppages and have now taken their cause to Parliament. The workers are angry that Labour Inspectors and Supervisors have benefited from generous pay arrangements that do not apply to other staff, such as admin workers, employed in the service. Strike suspended as labour inspectorate offers concessions
The FeSP-UGT and FSC-CCOO called off strike action on 30 March following a number of concessions by the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate. The unions had organised a major and highly successful nationwide mobilisation on 23 March and following this the Inspectorate put forward proposals for €6m in productivity payments, additional staffing and changes to job classifications. The unions will look at the proposals and consider their response and have not ruled out the possibility of strike action.
