Important dates in our calendars!

(17 October 2011) This weeks newsletter is full with information about the coming legislation that is going through the European Institutions starting this autumn and throughout 2012.

Amongst the issues at stake we find: Public Procurement, State Aids, Concessions as well as the current negotiations of the revision of the Working Time Directive. In the coming weeks we will be sending you information, documents and early warnings about the positions of the European public service unions towards these issues. To do that properly EPSU will be discussing them in depth in its coming Executive Committee taking place on November 8th and 9th. Of course, the main issue will be the crisis, the austerity measures and the response to them.

Mobilisations in Europe continue, we have already mentioned the public sector general strike in the UK on November 30th and the Greek one-day General Strike next week on October 19th also in Portugal there will be a week of action in reaction of the recently announced austerity measures from the 20th until 27th. EPSU is going to discuss in its Executive Committee the proposal for a coordinated European action day or action days around that date.

Last but not least, this week EPSU holds its European Health Conference in Bucharest. We expect more than 100 trade union representatives from the sector to discuss the Europeanisation of health policies and systems: challenges for the health workers. This important event is going to be a key moment to take stock of our joint achievements and to discuss future strategies to maintain universal health care for Europe’s citizens and decent conditions for health care workers.

We will let you know all about this important event,

Yours,

Carola Fischbach-Pyttel
