THE EUROPEAN TRADE UNION CONFEDERATION: THE VOICE OF SOCIAL EUROPE
On 5 November 2008, the European Parliament (EP) Employment and Social Affairs Committee will vote on the report by Alejandro Cercas on the Working Time Directive. The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) hopes that the EP committee will confirm the position taken by the Parliament in its first reading, in contrast with the regrettable agreement brokered at the Employment and Social Affairs Council on 9 June.
The Working Time Directive represents high stakes for European citizens. The Cercas report and the European trade unions want to keep this directive from paving the way to excessively long working hours.
ETUC will announce on this occasion the holding of a Euro-demonstration in Strasbourg on 16 December, on the eve of the vote in the EP plenary session.

DIRECTIVE TEMPS DE TRAVAIL: AMÉLIORER LES DROITS MAIS NE PAS ALLONGER LES HEURES DE TRAVAIL

LA CONFÉDÉRATION EUROPÉENNE DES SYNDICATS: LA VOIX DE L'EUROPE SOCIALE
Le 5 novembre, la Commission Emploi et Affaires sociales du Parlement européen (PE) votera le rapport d'Alejandro Cercas sur la directive « Temps de travail ». La Confédération européenne des syndicats (CES) souhaite que la commission parlementaire confirme la position que le Parlement avait adopté en première lecture. La CES avait, en effet, déploré l'accord qui avait été trouvé lors du conseil EPSCO (Conseil européen Emploi et Affaires sociales) du 9 juin dernier.
La directive sur le temps de travail représente un enjeu crucial pour les citoyens européens. Le rapport Cercas et les syndicats européens veulent éviter que cette directive soit la porte ouverte à des heures de travail excessives.
A cette occasion, la CES annoncera la tenue d'une Euro-manifestation à Strasbourg le 16 décembre prochain, à la veille du vote en plénière du PE.
