EPSU's Italian affiliate protest against prison overcrowding, 28 October 2010

On 28 October, EPSU’s affiliate FP-CGIL is mounting a staged protest against prison overcrowding, echoing the EPSU European action day on the same issue in 2008.

Three overcrowded prison cells will be staged in Piazza Montecitorio in Rome, at 10: 00 a.m., whilst sit-ins will take place in front of all the country’s prefectures (state administration).

The action day denounces the state of emergency in Italian prisons both for detainees and prison staff, a situation which the ongoing public service cuts will exacerbate further.

The initiative, entitled "The prisons explode, 10 crisis exit proposals” will include the participation of Rossana Dettori, Secretary General of FP-CGIL National and EPSU Vice-President, Patrizio Gonnella, President of the Association Antigone, politicians and NGOs.

EPSU wishes a successful action day to its affiliate.
