“The European union is facing a political crisis at a time of many challenges. And this crisis is used to restrict or roll back our social rights” warned EPSU General Secretary. “Our message is clear, we want the European Union to be a political and social European Union. We reject the approach of the Bolkestein Directive. It is not acceptable that competitiveness is the yardstick against which everything is measured, and social Europe is left behind.” An example is the fate of the Working Time Directive. “It is scandalous that the Commission and the Council of Ministers refuse to take action and follow the position of the European Parliament.” The Congress takes place on 17-19 October in Madrid, Spain.
