Pressure from EPSU affiliate, the Lithuanian Trade Unions of State Employees, has led to a new law implementing an increase in the base salary from 442 litas (€128) to 490 litas (€142). This is an increase of just under 11%.

State employees could get higher than planned pay rise
The 2009 pay rise for civil servants will be 6.6% rather than 5% according to a Czech news report on a recent parliamentary vote. The minister for labour proposed the higher increase in response to current economic conditions and a large majority of MPs supported the proposal, although the finance minister was among the small minority voting against. Unions welcome progress on basic statute
Public service unions in Spain have welcomed the latest steps in agreeing a new draft statute covering the rights of around 2.5 million public sector workers. The basic statute has set out the main employment rights of public sector workers for over 25 years and for the last two years unions have been negotiating important changes. The new statute will enshrine the right to collective bargaining, include measures to reduce the use of temporary contracts as well as recognising the need for achieving a better work-life balance. Parliament endorses basic statute for public sector
The FSAP-CC.OO and FSP-UGT union federations have welcomed the Spanish Parliament's backing of the new statute covering public sector workers. Following consideration by the Senate the law should be implemented in February. The statute covers a wide range of employment rights and pay and conditions of public sector workers plus collective bargaining rights of the unions.
