WHAT?

• The European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) intends to broaden and intensify its work with the European Parliament, one of the key players of European policy making, by strongly involving its affiliates active in the health and social service sector from across Europe.

• To start this process EPSU has received support from two eminent Members of the European Parliament, Sirpa Pietikäinen and Pervenche Berès who have kindly agreed to host a Round Table to allow for exchange and discussion between EPSU members and interested MEPs. To be followed by a get-together in the EP.

• Sirpa Pietikäinen, EPP Group, Finland, member of ENVI Committee

• Pervenche Berès, S&D Group, France, chairperson of EMPL Committee

ISSUES IN THE SPOTLIGHT

• Patient mobility and patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare (Directive 2011/24/EU). This has been a priority topic falling within the competence of the ENVI Committee

• Social services of general interest including elderly/long-term care. This is an EPSU priority within the remit of the EMPL Committee

• Recognition of professional qualifications (Directive 2005/36/EC). This has been a topic under the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for the Hospital/Health Care Sector and is being dealt with in the EP by the IMCO Committee

PARTICIPANTS

• EPSU: The invitation is addressed to all affiliates of EPSU, in particular those active in health care and social services, and to all MEPs interested in meeting and exchanging with them.

• EP: We aim to particularly involve MEP members or substitutes in the ENVI (Environment, Public Health and Food Safety), EMPL (Employment and Social Affairs), IMCO (Internal Market and Consumer Protection) Committees and/or active in one of the four Intergroups “Public Services”, “Carers”, “Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity” and “Social Economy”.
