Launching event of the project “Empowering the integration of younger workers in the European Metal, Transport, Food, Services, Construction and Wood Industries (as part of the EU Social Agenda)

Hotel Croatia - Cavtat – Dubrovnik (Croatia) – 13-15 May 2015

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to attend a European Youth Conference which will take place in Cavtat – Dubrovnik (Croatia) on 13-15 May 2015.
The conference will be the launching event of the project entitled “Empowering the integration of younger workers in the European Metal, Transport, Food, Services, Construction and Wood” which will be carried out by EFBWW, EFFAT, EPSU, ETF, IndustriAll and UniEuropa with the financial support of the European Commission.

The project aims to support the efforts of national trade unions to better attract and integrate young workers into their structures and involve them in their decision making processes.
To help achieve this aim a European Youth Conference will be organised, gathering around 150 young workers from different sectors and countries to present and exchange best practices and innovative approaches for the recruitment and integration of young workers and to prepare policy recommendations for trade unions at national level. At the same time participants will be able to share concerns about the obstacles they face to integrate into the existing structures and to attract newcomers as well as to discuss solutions.

The conference will be very interactive and the proactive participation of all the participants is requested. We expect everybody to share experiences, ideas, comments, etc.
To do so, 6 interactive workshops - divided into two sessions - will be organized to give participants the opportunity to discuss in smaller groups about their experiences on:

I SESSION:

1. Making trade unions more attractive for youngsters in the EU;

2. Shaping innovative ways of communication through new technologies and social networks;

3. Recruiting young workers to the trade unions;

II SESSION:

4. New mobilization techniques;

5. Young workers’ needs: making trade unions advocacy more representative;

6. Improving youngsters’ role in the trade union structures.

The EPSU is entitled to send 20 delegates to the youth Conference.

Should the maximum number of participants be surpassed, then the organizers will make a selection, ensuring that there is a fair geographical and gender balanced distribution.
Please note that final travel bookings should only be made following receipt of the confirmation letter on 24 March 2015.
