The STAL public administration union has organised a month of action in protest at government plans for the public services and attacks on the rights of public service workers. The union acknowledges that some changes need to be made in public administration but argues for a process of modernisation not destruction. It will organise weekly vigils outside the council of ministers and will distribute publicity material to highlight its arguments among the electorate.

Meanwhile the SINTAP public service union is planning a week of action between 18 and 25 June which also focuses on the government's reforms and its failure to properly negotiate changes with the unions. SINTAP will organise a vigil outside the prime minister's offices and is planning a series of regional activities.

The STAL and STML public administration unions demonstrated in Lisbon on 25 November against government policy and pay and the rights of public sector workers. The unions want a pay increase that will begin to compensate them for the fall in public sector workers' purchasing power over the last five years. Further progress on collective bargaining policy
Over 110 participants from 24 countries came together in Brussels to debate various aspects of collective bargaining policy within EPSU. Some of the key discussions covered policies on younger workers and migrant workers while there were also initial debates on new areas of policy covering older workers and work-life balance. Local government union takes further action
Local government union STAL, along with other unions in the public sector Frente Comum, is continuing its campaign against the austerity measures being imposed by the government. It was involved in major day of action on 26 November. The union will also step up its campaign for a 35-hour week and against the five-hour increase to 40 hours imposed by the government and recently endorsed by the Constitutional Court.
