Nearly six months after 98 workers were sacked by a private contractor at Maltepe hospital in Istanbul, a court has ruled that the company must reinstate a third of the workers or pay significant compensation. The verdict is a first step and others are due covering other employees who were dismissed. The union will seek discussions on reinstatement and a collective agreement.

Workers responsible for patient transport at Geneva University Hospital have won virtually all their demands after a two-day strike. The public services union UNISON has secured a major victory for around 900 outsourced security and cleaning workers at University College, London. The workers will soon see their holiday entitlement aligned with that of directly employed workers while pay, overtime, sickness and pension benefits will be brought into line by the autumn of 2021. Meanwhile the union is continuing its campaign to get better pay for outsourced workers employed by the Compass multinational at two hospitals in North West England. Public service union Unison has won a pay victory for cleaners at St.George's Hospital along with formal recognition by the contract cleaning company that runs the service. Workers will get the London Living Wage of £8.30 (€10.40) an hour from 1 August. This compares to the National Minimum Wage which is only £6.08 (€7.16) an hour for workers aged 21 and over.
