Hospital workers get 6.5% over 34 months

The ver.di and IGBCE trade unions have negotiated a new pay agreement covering around 25000 workers in 130 energy providers in Eastern Germany. Following an inadequate offer from the employers in mid-September, the unions organised warning strikes in seven cities and lengthy negotiations on 27 September finally lead to a settlement that delivers a 6% pay increase backdated to 1 September 2023 and a 4.5% increase on 1 November 2024. Public service union ver.di has called for a 6.5% pay increase for employees of regional government. The pay claim is based on the need to close the pay gap with the private sector and to keep pay increases in line with those negotiated in the local and federal government agreement signed earlier this year. Ver.di is also calling for jobs for those qualifying from apprenticeships and for an increase of €100 in the apprentice allowance. The union wants to negotiate improvements in employment conditions and will demand that any agreement is immediately applied to the 1.2 million civil servants

The public services union ver.di is calling for a monthly payment of €150 for all employees in municipal hospitals. The union argues that higher public transport and fuel costs have combined with a change to federal taxation on travel costs to make it more expensive for people to get to work and the monthly lump sum will compensate for this. Ver.di is also calling on the municipal hospitals to abide by the public sector collective agreement.
