The ADEDY civil service confederation organised a 24-hour strike on 9 July in protest at further job cuts. ADEDY also expressed its support for the GENOP-DEI energy union whose members had been forced to end their strike action against plans to privatise the energy sector.

The CSC/ACV and CGSP/ACOD unions representing prison workers have taken strike action in protest at government plans to legislate on limiting their right to strike. EPSU sent a solidarity message to the unions highlighting the deteriorating conditions and overcrowding in prisons across the country and the importance of having the right to strike to highlight the need for urgent action to address these problems and reverse the impact of austerity. Members of the PCS civil service union are planning a day of strike action on 26 July as part of their continuing campaign against job cuts and privatisation. The workers involved will be from the Border Agency, Identity and Passport Service and Criminal Records Bureau. Read more at > PCS
The FNME-CGT, FO-FNEM and CFTC unions in the energy sector have called for two days of strike action on 21-22 January to protest at plans by the SNET energy company, owned by the Germany energy multinational EON, to close coal-fired power stations and cut 535 jobs by 2015. The unions want commitments to prolong the life of some power stations and to investigate the conversion of others while also confirming investment in new biomass initiatives.
