The member organisations of the ADEDY civil service confederation will be taking part in a week of action and a two-day strike against the latest austerity measures being imposed on the public sector. The health sector is under particular pressure following a 25% budget cut in the last two years while some 25000 civil servants are being put into a relocation pool on reduced pay while waiting to find out if they will be relocated or finally dismissed. A further 4000 are set to lose their jobs by the end of the year.

Two-day general strike against latest austerity measures
The ADEDY civil service and GSEE private sector confederations organised another general strike on 7 and 8 February in protest against the latest austerity proposals to come from the troika of the International Monetary Fund, European Commission and European Central Bank. The new measures include a 22% cut in the minimum wage, 15% cut to supplementary pensions and a further cut of 15,000 public sector jobs. Two-day strike in health sector
The health federation of the CGT union is planning a two-day strike on 18 and 19 September in support of six key demands: salaries that reward qualifications and recognise the difficulty of the job, career progression with quotas, a minimum public sector salary of €1,550 a month, improvements in working conditions, urgent plans for training, and better provision for union reps to perform their duties. Two-day strike by health workers
The SINTAP public services union organised a two-day strike of health workers on 2-3 May in protest over working hours, excessive workloads and overtime and the need to improve career development. The union wants to see the 35-hour week guaranteed for all health workers, ensuring equal treatment across the public services. SINTAP highlights the problem of excessive workloads with many workers building up large credits of overtime worked. It is calling for workers to be paid for their overtime and for an increase in employment to address the problem of workloads. Early indications were of very
