The CMKOZ trade union confederation is organising a national demonstration on 21 April in protest at government austerity measures that include cuts to pensions, public sector jobs and higher VAT. The confederation is working to get broad support for the demonstration from pensioners, patients, the unemployment and civil society. The protest will be calling for the prime minister and government to resign.

Thousands of people joined the national protest in Lisbon on 19 March organised by the CGTP-IN confederation. The demonstration brought together unions from both public and private sectors. The unions will follow this up 1 April, National Youth Day, with action focusing in particular on youth unemployment. Unions' protest against austerity measures
EPSU affiliates, FP SEK, FSGE SEK, PASYDY, report that they will be taking strike action on 15 December in protest at the latest package of austerity measures. Earlier measures and the latest pay freeze mean that public sector workers will be 15% worse off by 2013. The unions are particularly angry that, despite the fact that most of the measures affect public sector workers, there has no social dialogue. Further protest actions against austerity measures
The ADEDY public services and GSEE private sector confederations organised a day of protest on 15 January against the latest austerity measures being voted on in Parliament as part of the package agreed with European lenders. The measures will mean further cuts to public service employment, cuts to pensions and tax allowances and restrictions on the right to strike.
