Difficult negotiations in the transport and waste sector

After four rounds of negotiations, the FNV Bondgenoten trade union reports little progress on the main issues in the transport sector negotiations with the employer TLN. This agreement also covers the private waste sector. The next round of negotiations will start on 11 April and the main demands include equal pay for work of equal value . This is about ensuring that all those working in the Netherlands receive the appropriate wage in line with the collective agreement and other obligations. A working group is to come with proposals on this issue. So far the employers have made no pay offer while the trade union is also concerned about how to ensure workers can cope with longer work when the pension age is increased.

Energy sector negotiations prove difficult

No progress has been made after the third round of bargaining at the Thüga energy company where the employer is insisting on a two-hour increase to the working week. Ver.di wants a 5.6% pay increase just to pay for the increase in working time and has rejected the employer’s offer of 1.2% plus a EUR 500 lump sum. Difficult negotiations in local government

Denmark

The results of negotiations in the municipal and regional sector in Denmark was very poor according to the unions in the sector. It is still being debated whether the members will see their wages rise in line with the inflation. But because of the economic crises and the very low wage development in the private sector all unions in the public sector have recommended their members to accept the results. The collective agreement will be renewed for two years with a 0.7% general wage increase in 2013 and 1.21% in 2014. There is an additional 0.25% for improving agreements from 1 January 2014. It

Difficult negotiations in health and social services

Austria

The vida and GPA-DJP trade unions face challenging negotiations with private and non-profit employers in health and social services. In the main private health agreement, BAGS, covering around 90,000 workers, the employers have offered between 2.95% and 3.05% when inflation is at 3.2%. There was also a disappointing offer, ranging from 1.89% to 2.5% from the private hospital employers where the agreement covers some 15,000 workers.
