The FOA public services union is critical of an initiative to reduce sickness absence by the Billund local authority in the Southern Denmark region. The council is paying an attendance bonus and it may be taken up by other municipalities. FOA argues that if sickness absence seems to high then there this raises questions about management responses and understanding the causes. The union makes the point that it people should not be forced to go to work if they are ill, particularly when they are working with the young, the sick and the elderly who would be more vulnerable to any contagious illnesses.

Union criticises minister for absence of social dialogue
In the lead up to a national demonstration over reforms to pay and the career structure in public administration, the STAL public sector union criticised the minister for local government for failing to meet with trade unions to discuss the problems facing the sector. The union says that over a three-year period the minister has met with unions only twice and has displayed an arrogant attitude towards the unions' attempts to negotiate over these issues. Government challenged over non-payment of bonus
The FSC-CCOO has written to the government to complain about its failure to pay public sector workers the extra pay they are owed from December 2012. The additional payment was cut as part of austerity measures. However, the state budget law passed last year confirmed that the payment should be made.
