The European Court of Justice has ruled that national governments cannot block the implementation of an agreed formula for pay increases for European Union officials. The formula is linked to pay increases in a number of member states and the latest increase is for 3.7%. National governments had called for an increase of only 1.85% in recognition of the cuts being imposed on many public sector workers across Europe.
