The Sed-Lex civil service federation is urging individual members to pursue legal action against the government and challenge the imposition of the 25% cut in pay that was implemented from 1 July this year. The union is also considering taking a case to the European Court of Human Rights. Another public sector union, Publisind, is also co-ordinating action among its members.

A threat of legal action and major demonstration by the YOL-İŞ construction union seems to have generated a reaction from the government. The union planned to mount a legal challenge against the Ministries of Transport and Finance over their failure to abide by a Supreme Court ruling dating from 2011. The CMKOS trade union has called a day of action for 27 November in protest at government policies and the threat of austerity, including cuts to public service pay. Public service unions also organised a press conference to express support for the demonstration and targeted strike action, recalling the negative impact of fiscal consolidation after the financial and economic crisis in 2009.
