EPSU affiliates SEKO and Transport are among a group of six trade unions in the LO confederation that is calling on employers not to dismiss workers and take on agency staff instead. A survey commissioned by the six unions shows that over 80% of workers would expect the unions to take action to stop employers replacing permanent staff with agency workers. The issue will be an important one in this year’s collective bargaining.

Union criticises councils' use of temporary and agency staff
The GMB general union has attacked local authorities for spending over £1.1 billion a year employing temporary and/or agency staff. The union argues that this marks a failure by management to ensure adequate levels of staff are available to provide a proper public service. Union opposition to Temporary Agency Work Directive
The Fagforbundet municipal union will be joining other unions in a day of action on 18 January against implementation of the Temporary Agency Work Directive in Norway. Trade unions are concerned that the legislation will undermine collective agreements that set pay rates and limitations on the use of temporary agency work and will transfer final authority on these issues to the EU/EFTA court that rules on the implementation of EU legislation in Norway.
