EPSU vice-president and JHL general secretary Tuire Santamäki-Vuori joined demonstrators outside parliament on 8 October in protest at the threat of 110 redundancies at the THL health institute. THL employees staged a walkout to join the demonstration which was also supported by the JUKO and Pardia trade unions.

The vast majority of Italy's 30,000 firefighters took strike action on 6 December with 3,000 members of FP CGIL, CISL and UIL, joining a national demonstration in front of the Italian Parliament in Rome on the same day. The protests were over the draft national budget for 2007. Members of the SIPTU services union working in the private, non-profit Bon Secours Health System are to commence a national ballot for industrial action in order to secure a job evaluation process for up to 500 support grade workers. Bon Secours and SIPTU have a long-standing agreement linking the pay and working conditions in the organisation to those of workers in the public health systems. Catering workers threatened with pay cut
The JHL public services union is concerned that government plans to transfer the Ministry of Defence catering service to a new company will lead to large pay cuts for many of the workers. The transfer would mean workers being covered by a different collective agreement and this could involve pay cuts of around €200 a month and possibly as much as €400 for some workers.
