After five years of negotiations the GÖD public service union is close to finalising the details of a new collective agreement that will cover all university workers and which should come into effect on 1 October this year. The agreement will set a minimum rate for university staff that the union believes will be attractive but also competitive. Academic staff will have their own career structure while all other university workers will be on an eight-grade pay scale, with progression linked to three levels of qualifications. The agreement will also regulate working time.

The GÖD public service union has signed the new collective agreement that will cover all university employees from 1 October this year. Union working towards collective agreement in university agency
Services union ver.di has managed to organise and make progress towards a collective agreement in the uni-assist agency that checks applications to universities from overseas students. The agency was set up in 2003 and now has 300 employees, with ver.di membership now at 60% of those on permanent contracts. The union is aiming to secure an agreement in line with the public sector agreement and is focusing on a number of specific issues including a reduction to a 38.5 hour week from 40 hours. State sector workers get collective agreement
At the end of December unions signed an historic first collective agreement with the government covering around 69000 state employees. The agreement establishes many existing working and employment conditions and is aimed specifically at improving social conditions and health and safety at work. It also provides for the possibility of discussions on indexation of civil service pay scales for the following year.
