Unions mobilise for next day of action in March

Following the widespread support for the public and private sector national day of action on 29 January, the eight trade union confederations involved are planning another nationwide mobilisation on 19 March. The government response to 29 January produced nothing concrete for the public sector federations. They have reiterated their key demands as:
· end the policy of job cuts and stop those currently planned under the 2009 budet;
· increase public sector pay and reform the pay structure to improve the career prospects of public sector workers;
· withdraw any plans for relocating or closing local services that have a serious impact on staff as well as local service users;
· provide the financial resources to maintain services instead of imposing austerity measures on central government, local and regional government and the health service.
The eight federations supporting the action are CFDT, CFTC, CFE-CGC, CGT, FO, FSE, Solidaires and UNSA.

Unions prepare for next mobilisation in June

Public and private sector union federations are continuing their mass campaigns over government policy and responses to the crisis. The eight public sector union federations have again come together to support the national days of action on 26 May and 13 June and to re-affirm their main demands to the government. These include immediate negotiations to secure an increase in the index covering public sector pay and revision of the public sector pay salary structure. The unions also want to see an end to job cuts and closures and transfers of services that are combining to undermine the quality

Public service unions set next day of action

The seven public service unions have announced 20 November, the day parliament votes on the 2008 budget, as the next day of action in protest at the government's failure to respond adequately to their demands on pay. The unions are looking for a reform of the pay structure and some compensation for the 6.5% loss of purchasing power of public sector workers since 2000. The government has responded with two minor reform proposals but also confirmed its plans to cut a further 22,000 jobs next year. 6 June for next anti-pension reform mobilisation

The trade union and student-led campaign against the government’s pension reforms and increase in pension age from 62 to 64 is building up for the next protest on 6 June. The main unions, including the CGT, CFDT, FO, UNSA and CFE-CGC, coordinated demonstrations across the country on 1 May – the 13th national day of action – with an estimated 2.3 million taking part. The 6 June action is timed just before a vote in the national assembly on 8 June on a proposed law that would repeal the pensions legislation. This will effectively be the first time that MPs will be able to vote on the issue as
