Health and social care trade unions are campaigning for better pay and conditions for hundreds of thousands of works in the dependent care sector and national health service. Around 3000 trade unionists protested outside the Ministry of Health on 30 November as part of the campaign by the CCOO-Sanidad union to secure major changes to the health service pay system. On 2 December the FeSP-UGT federation sent key demands to all the autonomous regions calling on them to intervene with the companies that are blocking measures to improve pay, reduce precarious work and tackle excessive workloads in the dependent care sector.

Dec. 19, 2016 (December 2016) Public service unions are calling for improved pay and conditions and career development for nursery school workers. The unions argue that this group of workers has been neglected for too long and urgent action is need to properly recognise their skills and the pressure of work. Unions put their case to a meeting of the Higher Public Service Council for local and regional government on 14 December with some unions taking strike action and joining demonstrations.
Oct. 31, 2014 The GPA-djp services union is running a new campaign over pay and conditions for the 160000 workers in the private health and social care sector. The union wants to see a sector minimum wage of €1500 and better conditions for in terms of working time, breaks and workplace conditions for the mainly female workforce. The union will be concentrating on five themes and getting works councils and trade union officials to mobilise members around these issues, to find out what their problems are and suggestions for how to negotiate improvements. Issues include ensuring workers can take breaks and have somewhere to take them and in relation to the increasing number of part-time contracts, additional payments for part time workers who work overtime.Read more at > GPA-djp (DE)
Feb. 27, 2019 Services unions vida and GPA-djp are pleased with the pay and working time package they have negotiated in the private health and care sector that covers 100000 workers. After five bargaining rounds, the employers agreed to a 3.2% pay increase and a series of measures on working time. These include an extra day of holiday after two years' service, additional payments for covering shifts, part-time work for older workers, recognising that time taken to change clothes at work is working time, new rules on split shifts and more certainty with planning rotas. There will also be an extra EUR 100 a month for trainees and extra benefits for specific employees, including childcare workers.
