Following the national demonstration on 13 June the three main trade union federations have called a national assembly of delegates representing the 150,000 employees in the private health sector whose collective agreement has not been renewed for 30 months. The assembly will take place on 11 July and will discuss when to call a national strike of private health workers.

Over 150,000 demonstrate in Madrid over cuts and attacks on collective bargaining
The FSC-CCOO, FSP-UGT and other trade unions mobilised over 150,000 people on the streets of Madrid to protest against the cuts being imposed by the regional government. The unions are particularly angry about the increase in the working week from 35 to 37.5 hours and cuts to sick pay. Unions estimate that the increase in hours could lead to 8000 job cuts. They say the imposed measures are also an attack on their collective bargaining rights. Private health workers plan strike action
Unions representing workers in the private health sector have agreed to a day's strike action and national demonstration on 11 May. The unions are trying to get the 2004-2005 collective agreement implemented and decided on the action following three regional demonstrations in Milan on 20 March, Bari on 24 March and Rome on 5 April. Further strike action planned in private waste sector
The FP-CGIL public services federation along with the three other federations in the private waste sector (FIT-CISL, UIL TRASPORTI and FIADEL) are planning two further days of strike action on 16 and 17 January following the well-supported one-day strike on 29 November last year (epsucob@NEWS 20, December 2011). A central demand in the dispute is maintenance of the sector agreement, which is under threat as a result of demands to liberalise the industry. Read more at > FP-CGIL (IT)
