EPSU call to contribute to solidarity fund for Turkish unions

(19 April 2017) Many union members have lost their job in the purge following the attempted coup 15/16 July 2016 in Turkey. Over 120.000 public and other employees were dismissed, suspended or even arrested under decrees introduced during the state of emergency. These decrees allowed for the dismissals, suspensions and arrests on the basis of little proof.  They included several thousands of trade union members including of unions affiliated to EPSU and PSI. It is expected many of these cases might end up in the European Court of Human Rights. This is expensive. ETUC and ITUC have established a solidarity fund to assist the unions in defending their members in the Courts. We ask people to contribute to this fund and ensure workers and trade unionists are able to defend themselves against the accusations.
