Demonstration in Italy against water privatization

(17 November 2010, Brussels) After the succesful campaign that collected more than 1.4 million signatures for a referendum against the privatization of water, this weekend, Milan has staged a demonstration to protest against the Ronchi Decree. This decree in practice will force the privatisation of the water management service in Milan before the referendum, which should take place next spring.

The risk is that the water in Lombardy might fall into the hands of a few private companies, Italian or foreign, interested only in making a profit, this will put an end to the good public management.

The slogan of the demonstration at the Pirelli Tower in Milan, organized by the Lombardy Regional Coordinating Committees for public water along with CGIL Lombardia was: "Regional law that threatens to privatize water in Lombardy ".
